수미: 민우 씨, 덥 날씨가 정말 시원해졌지요?

민우: 맞아요! 요즘 날씨가 너무 좋아요.

수미: 날씨가 시원해져서 피곤하 몸이 개운해졌어요.

민우: 다행이네요. 저도 요즘은 짜증나 마음이 많이 없어졌어요.

수미: 날씨가 좋아지면 몸과 마음도 좋아지는 것 같아요.

민우: 네, 나빴 것들이 좋아지는 것 같아요.

Focused Grammar:


adjective + -던 + Noun (retrospective)

verb stem + -던+ Noun  (used to)


 The expressions ‘adjective + -던 + Noun’ and ‘verb stem + -던 + Noun’ are used to express a past habitual action or situation that no longer occurs in the present.


1) When ‘~던’ is attached to an adjective, the expression becomes something that occurred in the past (that is different from the current situation).


예쁘/다 + 던 → 예쁘던: 예쁘던 꽃이 지금은 안 예뻐요.

(The flower that was pretty is now not pretty. )


바쁘/다 + 던 → 바쁘던: 바쁘던 아버지께서 요즘은 안 바쁘세요.

(My father who was busy is lately not busy.)


작/다 + 던 → 작던: 작년에는 작던 동생이 금년에 아주 커졌어요.

(My younger sibling who was short last year has become very tall this year.)


2) The expression Verb stem+ ‘던’’ is used to state past habitual actions (that are not continued in the present).


가/다+ 던 → 가던: 이 식당은 제가 작년에 자주 가던 식당이에요.

(This restaurant is the restaurant that I often went to last year. )


데이트 하/다 + 던→ 데이트 하던: 내가 데이트하던 남자가 다른 여자와 결혼했어요.    (The man whom I dated married another woman.)


좋아하/다 + 던→ 좋아하던: 내가 좋아하던 피자를 요즘은 안 좋아해요.

(Lately, I do not like the pizza that I had usually liked.)

[연습 1] Do as in the example.

Ex.)    좋아하/다→ 좋아하/던 예전에 좋아하/던 음식이 지금은 싫어졌어요.

The food I used to like before now has become food that I dislike.
